Karnal, March 29 -- The Haryana Police on Saturday rearrested two inmates from Uttar Pradesh who had escaped from the Rewari district jail on Friday evening. The fugitives, Zahid, 21, from Etawah and Faizan, 22, from Rampur, were both in custody in connection with cybercrime cases. The breach was discovered during a routine headcount on Friday evening, triggering an immediate high alert and statewide raids. Zahid was intercepted early on Saturday morning, while Faizan was apprehended a few hours later following coordinated police action. The escape has raised serious questions about the security protocols at the Rewari prison. The hi-tech facility was inaugurated by chief minister Nayab Singh Saini last year, with inmates being shifted there only a few months ago. IG, Prisons, B Satheesh Balan visited the jail on Saturday to review the situation. While the exact method of the escape remains under investigation, Balan confirmed that a comprehensive report has been sought.
