Two brothers get 20-year RI for raping minor sisters in P'kula
Panchkula, Feb. 1 -- A special fast-track court in Panchkula sentenced two brothers to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) each for abducting and raping two minor sisters in 2021.
The court has also imposed a fine of Rs.50,000 on each convict.
The case dates back to July 23, 2021, when a Panchkularesident approached the police, stating that his two daughters, aged 16 and 14, had been abducted by two brothers, aged 20 and 19, living in theirneighbourhood.
The next day, police registered a case under Sections 363 (kidnapping) and 366 (kidnapping or inducing a woman to compel her marriage) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The brothers were arrested six days later.
During subsequent investigations and medical examinations, it was found that the brothers had taken the minor girls to Bihar on the pretext of marriage, and raped them repeatedly.
Following these findings, police added Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault, which involves severe crimes against a child) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act to the chargesheet.
After a thorough trial during which the prosecutionpresented strong evidence, the court pronounced bothbrothers guilty and handed them a 20-year sentence....
