Fitness coach Kev Heintz (@AskCoachKev) highlighted this in a recent X post, warning that some items marketed as nutritious might actually be "keeping you fat".
The expert provided a roadmap for those looking to shave significant calories from their daily intake without sacrificing volume. Take a look:
Kev's breakdown focussed on high-calorie staples hiding in "clean eating" diets, pairing them with leaner alternatives. Taking on the morning routine, he noted, "Granola (1 cup) is 600 calories," suggesting "oats (with) 300 calories" instead.
He also called out the trendy acai bowl, saying it is typically "700 calories," compared to "Greek yoghurt with berries which is 200 calories." The takeaway: volume and satiety matter more than health halos. Just because it looks healthy doesn't mean it's low-cal.
The health expert also explained how a "clean" lunch can turn into a caloric heavyweight depending on the toppings. "A salad with ranch + croutons is 650 calories," he said, suggesting the "same salad, dressing on the side for 250 calories."
His most polarising take? Trail mix. While often seen as a go-to "healthy" snack, Kev noted, "Trail mix (1 cup) is 700 calories," underscoring how quickly calories can add up despite the "health" tag....
