Sukhbir asks Akali Dal cadres to help farmers
BATHINDA, April 7 -- Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday urged the halka in-charges and party supporters to help farmers whose wheat crop has been damaged due to recent rain and hailstorm.
Addressing a rally here in Muktsar, Sukhbir said that, like last year's devastating floods, SAD supporters should once again rescue farmers by distributing fodder, seed and medicines. "Last year, after floods, chief minister Bhagwant Mann had announced that farmers would receive immediate compensation of Rs.50,000 per acre for crop losses due to inclement weather, with the girdawari exercise taking place later. However, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has shirked its promise and abandoned the aggrieved farmers," he alleged.
The SAD chief stated that the welfare of farmers would be the next Akali government's top priority. "The party envisions offering crop insurance facilities to ensure adequate compensation in the event of any natural calamity," he said. Taking a jibe at the AAP, Sukhbir said, the state is power surplus today because of the erstwhile SAD government. "CM Mann should thank the SAD leadership for its long-term planning," he added....
