Students of AKSIPS 41 celebrate World Wetlands Day at Sukhna
Chandigarh, Feb. 4 -- As many as 35 students and two teachers from AKSIPS 41 Chandigarh participated in a Walkathon organized by the department of forests and wildlife and Youth Innovative Society, Chandigarh, at Sukhna Lake on the Occasion of World Wetlands Day on February 2, 2026, with the aim of spreading awareness about the importance of wetland conservation and sustainable environmental practices.
The event was graced by distinguished chief guests including Mandeep Singh Brar, IAS, home secretary, UT Chandigarh, along with senior forest officials - the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) and the Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), UT Chandigarh. The students enthusiastically took part in the walkathon, carrying placards and slogans highlighting the role of wetlands in biodiversity conservation, water security, and climate regulation.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guests emphasised the urgent need to conserve wetlands like Sukhna Lake, which play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance and supporting wildlife.
They encouraged citizens, especially the younger generation, to adopt eco-friendly habits and contribute towards environmental protection.
The event concluded with a pledge by participants to protect and preserve wetlands for future generations....
