Shukrana Yatra: Mann to pay tributes to BhagatSingh on Day 1
Jalandhar, May 6 -- : Chief minister Bhagwant Mann, along with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, will pay tributes to Bhagat Singh at his ancestral village, Khatkar Kalan, on the first day of the Shukrana (thanksgiving) Yatra on Wednesday. A four-day yatra is being held to express gratitude for the passage of the stringent anti-sacrilege law, the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib (Amendment) Act, 2026 and will commence from Takht Shri Keshgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib, one of the five temporal seats of Sikhism. The yatra will culminate at Fatehgarh Sahib on May 9.
The Punjab assembly, during a special session on April 13, enacted this legislation to provide a stringent legal deterrent against desecration, stipulating a quantum of punishment that includes life imprisonment and a penalty of up to Rs.25 lakh for acts of sacrilege against Guru Granth Sahib.
According to the schedule, the chief minister will address a public gathering at Ropar and Gandhi Chowk in Phagwara before proceeding to a night halt at his official residence in Jalandhar.
The next day, he will address a gathering at Adampur and then proceed to the Majha region, where he is slated to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple in Amritsar.htc...
