Roadside vends, vehicles seized, 50 challans issued
Chandigarh, March 24 -- As many as 50 challans were issued besides 17 vehicles and 15 roadside vends were impounded during an anti-encroachment drive, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) stated on Monday. The action was taken on the complaints of city residents, it stated.
At Sector 38 motor market, 17 vehicles being repaired on the roadside, causing hindrance to commuters, were impounded, officials said. In addition, equipment such as jacks, car seat covers and rubbing machines were also seized. A total of 35 challans were issued during this operation. During another drive in Kajheri village, officials of the civic body impounded 15 rehri (handcarts) "operating without permission," the MC stated.
Warning the encroachers, the officials said that such campaigns would be carried out across the city to ensure traffic flow is not obstructed....
