Jalandhar, April 14 -- The Punjab State and Chandigarh Human Rights Commission on Monday sought a report from Punjab Police officials, including the director general of police, in connection with five alleged drug overdose-related deaths in Kapurthala and Jalandhar in the past one month. Justice Gurbir Singh and Jitender Singh Shunty, members of the commission, took a suo-motu cognisance of a media report. Apart from the DGP, the commission has directed the Jalandhar police commissioner and the Kapurthala senior superintendent of police to submit their reports a week before the May 11 hearing, a statement issued by the panel mentioned. It further added that Kapurthala district recorded three such deaths in April while one case was reported from Jalandhar's Mehatpur last month.
