Police: 7,000 cops to be stationed along Char Dham Yatra routes
Dehradun, April 18 -- Around 7,000 police personnel will be deployed round-the-clock along routes for the upcoming Char Dham Yatra, a senior police officer said on Friday, adding that patrols will be maintained at temples and other sensitive locations to ensure the pilgrimage season's safe conduct.
Inspector general of police (Garhwal), Rajiv Swarup, who also serves as the yatra's nodal officer, said the entire yatra area has been divided into 16 super zones, 43 zones and 149 sectors. Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) teams will also be stationed at the shrines, and emergency response preparedness will be tested periodically through drills.
An integrated Char Dham Yatra control room has been set up at the Garhwal range office to monitor and coordinate traffic, security, crowd control and emergency response round the clock, added the IGP.
Authorities have identified 118 parking sites and mapped 52 traffic bottlenecks, 109 landslide-prone stretches, 61 black spots and 247 accident-prone stretches to aid traffic management, he said, adding that motorcycle patrols and surveillance will supplement traffic regulation.
Pilgrims will receive real-time traffic and weather updates through mobile alerts, added Swarup.
A robust traffic management plan is being prepared for the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, based on previously recorded challenges, said the IGP, adding that the plan emphasised stricter monitoring of registration and crowd control at entry points and accounted for the expected rise in traffic....
