POCSO case: P'kula man given 3.5-yr RI
Panchkula, Jan. 23 -- A special POCSO court in Panchkula has sentenced a 30-year-old man to three and a half years of rigorous imprisonment for committing vulgar acts against a 10-year-old girl. The convict, a neighbor of the victim, was found guilty under Section 10 (aggravated sexual assault) read with Section 18 (abetment/attempt) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Additionally, the court awarded him a two-year sentence under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for criminal intimidation and imposed a total fine of Rs.12,000. The court ordered that both sentences will run concurrently.
The case dates back to October 2019, when the Panchkula Women Police Station registered an FIR based on a complaint filed by the victim's mother. The complainant stated that the accused, who was in an inebriated state at the time, lured the child into his room with a Rs.10 note while she was playing near his house. When the mother intervened and attempted to rescue her daughter, the accused physically assaulted her and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone. Following his arrest, the accused confessed to the police that he had lured the child with money....
