Nepal man gets 12-yr jail in rape case
Rudrapur, Feb. 22 -- The district and session court has sentenced a Nepalese man to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a woman in Champawat district.
Judge Anuj Kumar Sangal sentenced Shankar Lal Chaudhury to 12 years RI and also imposed a Rs.1 lakh fine.
A government counsel in Champawat, Vidyadhar Joshi, said, "The man was a labourer and raped the woman when she was returning from the forest. The court on Thursday sentenced him to 12 years RI."
A 32-year-old woman had gone to graze cattle on August 27, 2024. While returning home, he raped her. Police had arrested him the next day. htc...
