Month's lowest: Night temp drops to 6degC
Chandigarh, Jan. 10 -- Residents shivered through the night as Chandigarh's minimum temperature plunged to 6.1degC on Friday, the lowest it has gone this month.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), similar temperatures are likely on nights without fog.
Speaking about this, IMD Chandigarh director Surender Paul said that humidity in the fog keeps the temperature from dropping too low.
Further, the fog also acts as a blanket, keeping the heat trapped at night. Thus when the fog subsides, the temperatures slide.
The minimum temperature on Thursday was 7.6degC.
Meanwhile, the maximum temperature rose from 16.1degC on Thursday to 17.1degC on Friday, one degree above normal.
Over the next three days, the maximum temperature will remain between 14degC and 16degC while the minimum will remain between 6degC and 7degC.
As per the daily bulletin released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI of the city was 124 while that of Panchkula was 125, both categorised as moderate.
