Merc, BMW 'racing' on highway in Faridabad hit motorcycle; 2 hurt
Gurugram, April 23 -- Two speeding luxury cars were allegedly involved in a multi-vehicle collision on Wednesday after one of the vehicles - a Mercedes - lost control and rammed into a motorcycle, injuring two people. The second vehicle, a BMW, then crashed into the Mercedes that had ended up in the middle of the highway, according to eyewitnesses and police.
Eyewitnesses said the two cars appeared to be racing and that the drivers fled the spot. Police said no case had been filed since it did not receive any complaints in the incident. The incident took place between 12.30am and 1am near Mujesar metro station. Eyewitnesses said the impact of the first collision caused the two people on the motorcycle to be flung at least 200 metres away. Both received minor bruises.
Investigators said both the cars were travelling at a speed above 150 kilometres per hour. At least nine men and woman, including the drivers, were travelling in the two vehicles.
Yashpal Yadav, public relations officer of Faridabad police, said no case had been registered since none of the parties approached to file any complaint in the incident, which had taken place under jurisdiction of Sector-8 police station. Police said the black Mercedes, bearing registration number of Faridabad (North), lost control of the car and hit the motorcycle at a high speed, ending up in the middle of the highway. The black BMW, registered in Nuh's Punhana, then slammed into the vehicle and spun on the main carriageway. The impact caused damage to all three vehicles, with one wheel of the Mercedes coming off the chassis. One the victims, Rakesh Sahu, 34, said he was sitting pillion on the bike being driven by his colleague. They were returning home at the time. "We were wearing helmet but still ended up sustaining bruises," he said. Eyewitnesses also alleged that all occupants of the cars were inebriated and dressed for some party. "They were clearly having fun on the highway risking the lives of commuters," another eyewitness said, declining to be named. "Both the cars were engaged in racing. The drivers fled from the spot and other occupants got into managing the situation," the eyewitness added....
