Man kills 1, stages own death to evade rape trial
Saharanpur, March 2 -- Four people have been arrested in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly conspiring to fake the death of one of them by murdering his debtor and staging the death as an accident, police said on Sunday, adding that the plan was made to help the man whose death was faked to evade a possible conviction in a rape trial.
The accused have been identified as Arjun Singh, Robin Prajapati and Vijay Sagar, residents of Biharigarh in Saharanpur district; and Shariq, a resident of Uttarakhand. Arjun Singh, whose death was staged, plotted the conspiracy along with the other accused to escape trial in a rape case, they said. SSP Abhinandan Singh said a village head informed authorities on February 25 about a burnt car with a charred body that was parked near the village. Later, Vijay Sagar and Robin approached police, saying the car belonged to Arjun Singh who was missing since February 24.
After initially suspecting the body to be of Arjun Singh, police located the accused and arrested him along with three others on Saturday. During questioning, Arjun Singh confessed that he killed Rohit Kashyap, whom he owed about Rs.1.7 lakh, and placed his body in the car and set it onfire.htc...
