Ferozepur, Feb. 4 -- Police have arrested a man and recovered more than 5kg of heroin from his possession at a checkpoint set up near Chandiwala village in Ferozepur on Tuesday. Ferozepur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said the action was taken following an intelligence input that a smuggler carrying a large consignment of narcotics was moving in the area. The accused, identified as Manjit Singh, 45, of Chandiwala village, was intercepted with 5.507kg of heroin and was taken into custody, the SSP said. A case has been registered under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Ferozepur Sadar police station, the SSP added. Police on Tuesday arrested four drug traffickers and recovered 4.168kg of heroin and five mobile phones from their possession in separate cases. The arrested accused have been identified as Rohit, Vishal Singh and Gurdit Singh, all residents of Rodawala Kalan village in Attari, and Sahildeep Singh of Dande. Acting on tip-off that Rohit, Vishal and Gurdit were involved in heroin trafficking, Gharinda police conducted an operation and arrested them from a drain area on the Attari side near Rodawala. Police recovered 2kg of heroin and two mobile phones from their possession. In another operation conducted jointly by the police and BSF near Attari, one Sahildeep Singh was arrested with 2.158kg of heroin and three mobile phones....
