Lured with high returns, P'kula man duped of Rs.1.37 crore
Panchkula, Feb. 22 -- Police have launched a probe after a 57-year-old man alleged he was defrauded of Rs.1.37 crore in an online investment scam.
The complainant, who is a resident of Sector 8, alleged that he received a WhatsApp call in January, promising high returns and persuading him to invest a substantial amount in an IPO. Trusting the caller, he invested Rs.1.37 crore. However, he never received the promised returns and the caller went off the grid.
Realising he had been cheated, he contacted the police, who registered a case under Sections 316 (2) (criminal breach of trust), 318 (4) (cheating) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Cyber Crime police station....
