Kullu fest brings woollen warmth to City Beautiful
India, Jan. 26 -- The Manu Weavers Handloom and Handicraft Society from Kullu had brought a welcome touch of warmth to the city with its exhibition Kullu Fest, currently on at Lajpat Rai Bhawan, Sector 15.
Known for its understated palettes in earlier collections dominated by sombre greys and blacks, the society's offerings this season take a noticeably more vibrant turn. Jackets appear in lively hues such as tangerine, navy blue, mustard, aubergine and even pink. According to the organisers, these jackets have emerged as bestsellers, with sizes available for juniors as well.
Sharing space with the winterwear are pure wool shawls, with the kaani shawl taking centre stage for its intricate workmanship. To the untrained eye, these shawls may resemble digitally printed designs, but each piece is painstakingly woven over months, with weavers carefully mixing and matching threads to create detailed patterns.
Also on offer are Pashmina, rabbit wool and yak wool shawls, all featuring the quintessential woven Kullu borders marked by geometric motifs. A woollen festival from the mountains would be incomplete without Angora wool caps, the exceptionally warm Chamba socks, and a range of vibrantly knitted mufflers and stoles.
For those still putting together their winter wardrobe, the exhibition offers budget-friendly options including sleeveless coats, jackets, gloves and stoles. A home linen selection of bedspreads and quilts is also available. Kullu Fest remains open until February 15.htc...
