Joint strategic vision to boost bilateral ties
NEW DELHI, April 21 -- India and South Korea on Monday agreed to boost bilateral relations through a "Joint Strategic Vision" to strengthen their special strategic partnership, a comprehensive framework for cooperation in shipbuilding, and enhancing collaboration in areas such as sustainability, energy resource security, economy, defence, artificial intelligence, semi-conductors, critical minerals and supply chain resilience, as discussed during wide-ranging talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Lee Jae Myung.
The Joint Strategic Vision, one of the talks' most significant outcomes, will shape the bilateral special strategic partnership over the next five years. The vision's highlights include reinforcing political foundations through high-level exchanges, building deeper understanding through greater strategic trust, creating mutual wins through industrial dynamism, and catalysing partnerships focusing on trade, finance and development. "The two leaders agreed to have leader-level meetings annually, in either country or on the margins of international events, to realise the full potential of the India-ROK (Republic of Korea) Special Strategic Partnership and to provide continuous guidance to the engagement, going forward," a statement said.
A Korean president visited India after eight years.
"Democratic values, market economy, and respect for the rule of law are in the DNA of both our countries. We also share a common outlook on the Indo-Pacific region. Based on all this, our relations have become more dynamic and comprehensive over the past decade," Modi said. The two leaders agreed to intensify bilateral political exchanges and ministerial dialogues. "They also agreed that an India-ROK Industrial Cooperation Committee, a new dialogue mechanism of the ministers responsible for industries in the two countries, will be launched and will hold its first meeting this year," the statement said.
"To facilitate financial flows between the two countries, we have launched the India-Korea Financial Forum. To strengthen business cooperation, we have established an Industrial Cooperation Committee. To enhance cooperation in critical technologies and supply chains, we are initiating an Economic Security Dialogue. To facilitate the entry of Korean companies, especially SMEs, into India, we will also establish a Korean Industrial Township. And within the next year, we will upgrade the India-Korea Trade Agreement," Modi said. Two days ahead of the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack, the two sides unequivocally and strongly condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism....
