IMD forecasts thunderstorm, light rain till May 29
Chandigarh, May 24 -- Even as the day remained mostly sunny on Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast light rain and thunderstorms in the city till May 29.
According to IMD officials, two low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea are feeding moisture into the region. In addition, two cyclonic circulations - one over southern Haryana and the other over central Pakistan - are also influencing the weather. These systems, combined with a Western Disturbance (WD), led to the strong storm recorded on Wednesday evening.
Cool winds from Himachal Pradesh continue to blow into the city, keeping the peak May heat at bay. The temperature, however, began rising again after sharp drop on Thursday. The maximum temperature, which fell from 39.2degC on Wednesday to 34degC on Thursday, a cool 5.7 degrees below normal, climbed to 37degC on Friday, still 2.7 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature also rose from 22.1degC to 27.8degC, 2.3 degrees above normal. Over the next three days, the maximum temperature may rise further to around 40degC...
