HC puts Punjab GOVT on notice
Chandigarh, Jan. 16 -- The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday sought response from the Punjab government on a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking steps for early completion of investigation into sexual offence cases involving minors.
The PIL, filed by lawyer Kanwar Pahul Singh, also seeks directions to take immediate measures of wide publicity of Section 23 of The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO Act) among general public, children, parents and through all possible mediums so that the identity of minor children victims of such offences is not revealed. The PIL alleged that in a rape and murder case of a minor reported in Jalandhar in November 2025, the identity of the family and minor was allegedly revealed, and at some forums, even the photo of the victim was carried, thus violating the 2012 law.
