Chandigarh, Feb. 6 -- In keeping with the statewide protest call by bar bodies in other district courts of Punjab, the Chandigarh district bar association has announced a strike on Friday. They had shunned work on Thursday as well. They are protesting the implementation of action plans for subordinate courts and the legal-aid defence counsel (LADC) system. Bar association general secretary Amish Sharma said that the policies directly and adversely affect the interests, dignity, independence, and future of the legal profession and the Bar at large. Swaraj Arora, an advocate, said there are problems with the new legal aid system as a result of which the accused parties are losing out.
