New Delhi, Feb. 14 -- The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has tightened breath analyser (BA) norms for flight crew, with repeated violations now leading to suspension and even cancellation of licences under revised rules effective February 9. Under the amended Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), the Foreign Aircrew Temporary Authorisation (FATA) of an expatriate pilot operating in India will be cancelled and not reconsidered if the pilot tests positive in a pre-flight breath analyser examination. A pilot found positive in a pre-flight BA test on three occasions will face cancellation of licence. A second violation, either two positive pre-flight tests or one positive and one missed test, will qualify for a suspension. For post-flight violations, one positive and one missed BA test (in either order) will entail a three year suspension.
