Court adjourns hearing in Sikh activist murder case to Feb 26
BATHINDA, Feb. 4 -- A sessions court in Faridkot on Tuesday adjourned the hearing in the murder case of Sikh activist Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau, who was shot dead on October 9, 2024. The case will now be taken up on February 26.
Additional district and sessions judge Krishan Kant Jain deferred the proceedings after two prosecution witnesses failed to appear in court to record their statements. The witnesses included the deceased's father, Sukhchain Singh, who is also the complainant, and another witness. The investigation has named 17 accused in the case, including jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh and Canada-based terrorist Arshdeep Singh, alias Arsh Dalla. However, murder charges were framed during the previous hearing on January 20 only against the arrested accused.
Five accused, including Amritpal Singh, are not named in the chargesheet as they have not yet been arrested, police said. According to police, Gurpreet Singh was a close associate of Waris Punjab De founder Deep Sidhu and later joined the organisation after Amritpal Singh took over. He later parted ways and began criticising Amritpal on social media, which allegedly led to his murder.HTC...
