Court accepts UP cops' closure report against ex-JJP leader
Chandigarh, Jan. 29 -- A local court in Chandigarh has accepted a cancellation report filed by the Uttar Pradesh police in a rape case against former Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) leader Ramesh Godara.
The FIR was registered at the Sector 3 Police Station in Chandigarh based on a complaint from a 33-year-old woman from Hisar in 2021.
The complainant alleged that Godara, who is related to her, had taken her to Chandigarh under the pretext of providing her medical treatment. She claimed that he raped her at the MLA hostel in Sector 3 and that he had taken explicit photos and videos of her.
Initially, the FIR was filed as a zero FIR in the city while it was lodged in Hisar. However, the court found that the complainant's allegations were not supported by any evidence, including reports from MLA hostel officials and statements from doctors in Kalka and Hisar.
Further, the alleged chats between the complainant and Godara did not corroborate the charges. The court concluded that no prima facie case could be established on record.
Ramesh Godara was the former district president of JJP from Hisar and had also contested the Assembly elections in 2019....
