BJP slams Rahul's MGNREGA stir
New Delhi, Jan. 24 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday strongly criticised Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of "staging a drama of struggle" over the VB-G RAM G Act. The ruling party's attack on Gandhi came a day after the LoP called for daily wage labourers, who previously signed up for MGNREGS, to unite and demand the rollback of the new legislation just as farmers did against the now-repealed three farm laws.
In a post on X, Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan slammed Gandhi for protesting against the legislation after being absent during parliamentary deliberations. "...At that time, the LoP was on a foreign tour," he said. "Now the Congress is putting on a drama of struggle over this Act..."
Party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi slammed Gandhi for calling the Act as "VB GRAM G", alleging that this "reflects the Congress party's hatred, contempt and disregard for Lord Ram". "This is the same word, 'Ram', that Mahatma Gandhi had said and which is considered the most sacred," Trivedi said. "The Congress party no longer has even the slightest right to claim Gandhi's legacy now."
