Anticipatory bail denied to accused in Rs.6 lakh job scam
Mohali, Feb. 7 -- A local court has dismissed the anticipatory bail application of an accused in a fraud case registered at the Naya Gaon police station. The accused has been booked for allegedly cheating a woman of over Rs.6 lakh on the pretext of arranging a government job in the Haryana secretariat.
According to the prosecution, the FIR was registered on the complaint of Sunita Kumari, who alleged that the accused, Manish Gupta, developed familiarity with her family while visiting the house of her brother-in-law during construction work at New Chandigarh.
The complainant said that Manish projected himself as an astrologist with political connections and claimed he could secure a government job for her daughter in the Haryana secretariat.
The court noted that the accused allegedly demanded Rs.12 lakh for arranging the job and persuaded the complainant to pay the amount in installments. As per the FIR, the complainant initially handed over Rs.2 lakh in cash along with her daughter's educational certificates on December 3, 2024.
She later transferred another Rs.2 lakh through RTGS to the bank account of Manish on January 10, 2025. On the same day, the accused allegedly took an additional Rs.2 lakh in cash after showing a purported appointment letter, a copy of which was never provided to the complainant.
The court observed that despite receiving the money, the accused neither arranged the promised government job nor returned the amount. After hearing arguments from both sides and perusing the police record, the court dismissed the anticipatory bail application....
