AG Punjab lift north zone hockey title
Chandigarh, Feb. 7 -- AG Punjab, Chandigarh, produced a commanding performance to defeat AG Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj, 5-1 in the final of the IA&AD North Zone hockey tournament 2025-26, played at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium on Thursday.
Punjab dominated proceedings from the outset, with Deepak Rawat setting the tone by scoring twice through field goals in the 3rd and 43rdminutes.
Mukul Bhargava further strengthened Punjab's grip on the match with two well-taken field goals in the 41st and 58th minutes, while Gurmukh Singh added one goal from a penalty corner in the 15th minute.
AG Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj, managed a lone consolation goal through Nabin Kujur, who converted a penalty corner in the 8th minute, but thereafter struggled to breach the disciplined Punjab defence.
With this emphatic win, AG Punjab, Chandigarh, emerged champions, while both finalists - AG Punjab and AG Uttar Pradesh - qualified for the inter-zonal hockey tournament.
