Mohali, April 22 -- A fire broke out in a private society in Sector 125, Kharar, allegedly following sparking in an air conditioner, on Tuesday around 3 pm, leading to the death of a pet dog and destruction of valuables worth several lakhs. The flat owner, Raj Sharma, said he and his wife were inside the house when the incident occurred. As the flames spread rapidly, the couple managed to rush out in time and save their lives. However, their eight-year-old pet dog got trapped in the fire and died. The fire gutted almost the entire household, including an LCD TV, fridge, aroundRs.2.5 lakh cash, and gold. On receiving information, a fire brigade team reached the spot. The team, Sarabjeet Singh and firemen Jagdish Singh and Navtej Singh, brought the fire under control after strenuous efforts and prevented it from spreading to nearby flats, averting a major mishap.
