81-yr-old duped of Rs.12L in PNB credit card scam
Panchkula, Feb. 7 -- Cybercriminals targeted an 81-year-old retired officer in Sector-4, duping him of Rs.12.20 lakh in an online credit card scam.
According to the complaint, the victim received a call on January 31 from an unknown number, where the caller introduced himself as Rohit Yadav, an employee of Punjab National Bank. He claimed that retired officers were eligible for a special credit card with a limit ofRs.5 lakh.
After gaining the victim's trust, the accused obtained sensitive details, including bank account information, Aadhaar number, debit card, and PAN card. The caller later made a WhatsApp video call, saying that Rs.1 would be deducted in the name of Ram Janmabhoomi to complete the credit card process, assuring that the card would be delivered within ten days.
On February 1, the victim checked his bank accounts and discovered that Rs.12 lakh had been withdrawn from two accounts.
He subsequently lodged a complaint on the cybercrime portal on February 3. The cyber police are now conducting a technical investigation to trace the accused....
