3.3 mm rain brings mercury down to 27.3degC
Chandigarh, March 30 -- A fresh spell of rain on Sunday due to a Western Disturbance brought relief from the recent rise in temperatures in the city.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh recorded1.6 mm rainfall till 8.30 am and another 1.7 mm between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, totalling 3.3 mm. The cloud cover and showers brought the maximum temperature down from 32.9degC on Saturday to 27.3degC, four degrees below normal.
In contrast, the minimum temperature rose from 16.1degC to 19.2degC, 1 degree above normal.
As the system is expected to get stronger on Monday, IMD has issued an orange alert, advising residents to exercise caution, especially during outdoor activities.
The department has forecast thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 km per hour. Over the next few days, the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 31degC, while the minimum temperature may settle near 16degC.
