Mohali, Feb. 24 -- Three persons were arrested with 2.4 lakh Pregabalin capsules - a drug restricted for sale or distribution without proper permit - during a naka in Dhakoli on Saturday night, police officials said. Pregabalin is a prescription medicine used to treat nerve pain, epilepsy and anxiety disorders. However, it is also misused due to its sedative and euphoric effects. Its sale and distribution without proper licence and documentation is prohibited under the law. SHO Simarjeet Shergill said, "We had a tip-off regarding the transportation of the restricted capsules. A naka was laid and the vehicle, a black Mahindra Scorpio (PB-22-Y-8971), was intercepted. While checking, the accused failed to produce valid documents for possession and transportation of such a large quantity." The accused were identified as Anshul Kumar, Rajat Kumar and Raman Singh, all hailing from Fazilka. They have been booked under Sections 223 (disobedience ), 125 (endangering life or personal safety of others) and 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
