Mohali, Feb. 13 -- A two-year-old boy died after he was allegedly struck by a speeding and uncontrolled JCB machine, in Singha Devi area of Nayagaon on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred around 12.15 pm when thevictim was playing outside his home in a residential lane. According to police, the heavy construction vehicle entered the narrow lane at high speed and hit the toddler. One of the machine's heavy tyres reportedly ran over the child's head, killing him on the spot. The child's family hails from Bihar and were living inNayagaon, where his father worked as a daily-wagelabourer while his mother is employed as a domestic worker. Nayagaon station house officer (SHO) Gurbir Singh said that, according to eyewitnesses, the JCB was in speed when it struck the child. Chaos broke out immediately after the accident, and the driver allegedly fled the scene along with the machine. "An FIR has been registered against the unknown JCB driver. We are tracing the route of the vehicle through CCTV footage and trying to ascertain where and for whom it was working," the SHO said. A police team reached the spot soon after the incident, gathered evidence, and took custody of the body. The child's body was later sent to Kharar civil hospital for post-mortem examination....
