11-year-old boy dies after falling in open drain in up
Gorakhpur, Feb. 20 -- An 11-year-old boy died after falling into an uncovered drain in Gorakhpur's Rapti Nagar Extension Colony on Thursday, in a string of recent similar incidents of civic apathy leading to death of citizens.
The boy's father, Shyam Sundar, said sharp iron rods protruding from the drain caused severe injuries to his son. The child was rushed to the Gorakhpur Medical College, where doctors declared him dead. Station house officer Suraj Singh of Chiluwatal Police Station confirmed that a complaint has been received and an inquiry has been initiated.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem. Police identified the deceased as Kanhaiya Chaurasiya, 11. The boy was returning home in Mundera village after purchasing stationery items when the incident took place.
According to residents, the boy's bicycle allegedly slipped into the open drain, which was hidden by dense bushes since the construction had been delayed. htc...
