New Delhi, Jan. 30 -- Former Union minister and Congress lawmaker Shashi Tharoor, who was at odds with the party's official line on a number of issues in the recent past, met party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, in an attempt to bury differences ahead of the Kerala assembly elections. Tharoor said the meeting was constructive and positive. "We had a discussion with my two party leaders, the LoP and the Congress president. We had a very good, constructive, positive discussion. All is good, and we are moving together on the same page. What more can I say? I have always campaigned for the party, where have I not campaigned?" the Thiruvananthapuram MP said. The Congress released a photo of the meeting that showed all three leaders relaxed and smiling. The meeting came after months of growing distance between public stances taken by Tharoor and the party, especially on foreign affairs. The differences became glaring in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor when the government picked Tharoor to head one of the parliamentary delegations even though the Congress had not nominated him. Many leaders had alleged that Tharoor, a popular lawmaker with urban youth, had diluted the party's attack against the National Democratic Alliance. In the last Congress Working Committee meeting, Tharoor opposed a resolution that targeted the government over the situation in Bangladesh. Later, that resolution was dropped. Last week, Tharoor was missing from a key strategy meeting on the Kerala elections, triggering speculations of further rift ahead of the polls. The Congress is keen to win the Kerala polls after its defeat in the 2021 elections, when the Left Democratic Front defied the state's long tradition of flipping the party in power every five years. According to a senior leader, the Congress is pulling out all the stops to ensure unity in the deeply factionalised Kerala unit. Tharoor indicated that he had not deviated from the party line and emphasised that he has no interest in assembly elections. "No, that was never discussed. I am not interested in being a candidate for anything. At the moment, I am already an MP, and I have the trust of my voters from Thiruvananthapuram. I have to look after their interests in Parliament, that is my job," he said, when asked if the position of the Kerala chief minister was discussed....
