TN Police arrest freelance editor, two others in Jana Nayagan leak case

he Cyber Crime Wing of the Tamil Nadu Police on Wednesday arrested three men, including the key accused, in connection with the leak of Jana Nayagan, the unreleased film starring actor-politician Vijay. The arrests come after six detentions earlier on April 12, following the film's leak in HD via multiple clips on April 9.
Initial suspicion had pointed towards the film's editor Pradeep, as some leaked clips carried an edit watermark. But police clarified that the main accused was a freelance assistant editor working on another film.
As per officials, he allegedly gained unauthorised access to the footage of Jana Nayagan at an editing studio and stole the data. The material was compiled into a movie format and shared with the co-accused, leading to its circulation online.
The development comes days after South Indian Film Editors Association president Gopi and Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) president RK Selvamani addressed the media and responded to allegations surrounding the leak.
Gopi firmly denied any involvement by film editors, stating that "editors will never do this kind of work". Selvamani noted that piracy remains a persistent issue in the industry and efforts are underway to strengthen systems to prevent such incidents."Piracy is not new and has been an ongoing issue in the film industry, and steps are being taken to create systems to control such leaks and avoid similar incidents in the future," he said.
Meanwhile, the Madras High Court has granted an interim injunction restraining internet service providers and cable operators from streaming or broadcasting any unauthorised versions of Jana Nayagan. HTC...
