India, Feb. 12 -- With rising health deficiencies and limited sun exposure, vitamin D supplements have become a daily essential for many. However, very few are aware of the best time to take them for maximum benefits. Neurologist Dr Priyanka Sehrawat, in an Instagram reel, shares the best time of the day to take vitamin D supplements for optimal absorption and effectiveness. "Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, which means its absorption is maximum when there is fat present in the gut," Dr Sehrawat says. The vitamin thus doesn't dissolve in water and is best absorbed into the blood when combined with foods rich in fat. "I usually tell my patients that the best time to take it is typically during their largest meal of the day. For example, if you have a good breakfast or a substantial lunch with rice, curd, and vegetables, which include carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, your gut has the right composition to absorb Vitamin D effectively," Dr Sehrawat adds. For those taking the supplement in powdered form, Dr Sehrawat recommends, "Take it with milk instead of water. First, milk contains good, healthy fats. Second, milk is a rich source of calcium, and calcium and Vitamin D work hand in hand." Essential to prevent deficiencies such as rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults, Vitamin D plays a crucial role in promoting calcium absorption and maintaining bone health.HTC...
