Siddharth on getting hate for Chiraiya: People want to put me ina blue drum
India, April 9 -- A
ctor Siddharth Shaw plays Arun, a newlywed who repeatedly rapes his wife, in the web series Chiraiya. The 27-year-old, who has drawn backlash for the role, says he welcomes it.
"People want to put me in a blue drum [referencing to the gruesome murder case in Meerut from March 2025 where a man's dismembered body was found sealed inside a blue plastic drum]. That is from the women's perspective. Men, on the other hand, are hurling expletives at me. I am so happy to see so much hate because if this guy is hated to that level, then that only means I've done my job well," he says.
Behind the scenes, however, the role took a heavy emotional toll. "The first day when we shot an intimate scene for the suhagraat, I howled for five minutes during the first take, and we had to stop shooting. I had so much tension and anxiety, and because of my stress, my lower back completely froze," he shares.
The impact lingered long after filming wrapped. "For six months, I had terrible anxiety because this was not a lovemaking scene; this was a rape sequence. When I went ahead and shot the honeymoon sequence, I got a panic attack right after shooting. My family could not watch the sequence," he adds.
Addressing the debate around the show, with some calling it 'anti-men propaganda', Siddharth believes sparking conversation is part of the job. "As artistes and filmmakers, our onus is on starting a discourse about what's happening in society; good, bad, or evil. With Chiraiya, I feel our job is done. It's great that people are voicing their views. When someone calls it propaganda, the audience itself offers counterpoints," he ends....
