India, Feb. 14 -- There appears to be no immediate relief for actor Rajpal Yadav, as the Delhi High Court on Thursday adjourned his bail plea to February 16 in an ongoing cheque bounce case linked to a Rs.5 crore loan allegedly taken for film-related work. With interest and penalties, the amount reportedly rose to over Rs.11 crore, and the actor is facing a liability of nearly Rs.9 crore in the matter. After the hearing, his lawyer Bhaskar Upadhyay told reporters that Rajpal has already paid Rs.2.5 crore towards the dues and is willing to deposit more, adding that around Rs.1 crore had earlier been deposited with the court registry and a cheque of Rs.25 lakh was also presented on Thursday. "No one should be imprisoned solely on the basis of an undertaking," he said, noting that the defence will seek fresh instructions from the actor in jail. "Whatever assistance we receive, we are ready to deposit it with the court. If we pay the money, the matter may be treated as a settlement." Yadav surrendered at Tihar Jail on February 5. The matter will be heard next on Monday. htc...
