India, March 25 -- D al chawal may be India's go-to comfort meal, but it's not ideal for those on a weight-loss or fitness journey, says celebrity trainer Siddhartha Singh, who trains actor Tamannaah Bhatia. Taking to Instagram, Siddhartha points out that a plate of only dal and rice is calorie-heavy and low in protein and fibre, making it an imbalanced meal. "Please let's get over it already," he shared. Here's how he suggests turning dal chawal into a more balanced plate: The first step is to cut down the quantity of both dal and rice. Siddhartha stresses that piling your plate high with rice and a large serving of dal significantly increases calorie intake. By simply reducing the portions by half, you can bring down the calorie count of the meal considerably. Cutting portions can make the meal less filling, which is why adding protein is key. "This is where protein comes in," Siddhartha says. He recommends adding about 100 grams of paneer to the meal, noting, "If it is low-fat paneer, it is even better." This helps improve satiety and balance the meal. To further improve the nutritional value, Siddhartha suggests adding fibre through a bowl of salad. This not only aids digestion but also makes the meal more filling. "And if you want to make this a really amazingly balanced plate, add 200 grams of Greek yoghurt," he adds, rounding off the meal with an extra boost of protein and gut-friendly benefits....
