Karan Johar gets relief in defamatory case against CarryMinati
India, Feb. 12 -- Filmmaker Karan Johar took legal action against YouTuber CarryMinati, aka Ajey Nagar, over a roast video titled Coffee With Jalan, a spoof of Johar's talk show Koffee With Karan, that allegedly contained objectionable remarks about him. A Mumbai court has now ruled in Johar's favour.
As per Bar and Bench, on February 9, Judge Pandurang Bhosale, who heard the case, noted, "It appears that Ajey Nagar and Deepak Char (manager of the CarryMinati channel) have made defamatory statements and used vulgar language against the plaintiff." The court ordered that the videos be taken down immediately and prohibited their further circulation on any social media platforms.
According to Johar's plea, the video used abusive language and made direct attacks on his name while mocking Bollywood's nepotism culture. Despite the video being taken down, the 53-year-old argued that several users had begun making short clips from the original video, causing further damage to his reputation.
In response, Nagar's legal team maintained that the clip had already been removed and that there was no reason for Johar to pursue the case further. They claimed that the filmmaker filed the suit "hurriedly" without giving the YouTuber an opportunity to clarify his side.
However, Judge Bhosale issued an ad-interim injunction restraining Nagar and his team from posting any further defamatory content against Johar, and directed social media platforms to take down the URLs and prevent re-uploads.htc...
