hat keeps the rose relevant year after year is not just tradition, but how its meaning has evolved. Once defined solely by red and romance, roses today come in many colours: pink for friendship, yellow for joy, white for comfort, and sometimes no colour at all, carrying nothing more than a quiet message that says, 'I'm here for you.'
For Adarsh Lonari, the day is about making his partner, Simran Dubey, feel special beyond the flower itself. Along with roses, he has something else planned too: "I won't be just giving a simple bouquet but also a handwritten note that would add a spark to the bouquet; and with some chocolates of course. "
He adds, "We haven't set any budget. The day comes only once a year, so we want to make it special."
But there are others who prefer quieter gestures and intimate celebrations. For Madeeha Naik, Rose Day is about appreciation rather than extravagance.
She says, "It doesn't matter if it's a bouquet or a single rose. The intention is what matters," adding that her budget is simply what feels affordable. But she feels roses, while beautiful, have become predictable, and that other flowers can sometimes express emotions more thoughtfully.
While Rose Day is often associated with couples, its significance varies depending on who it's shared with. So for many single women, Rose Day takes on a different meaning altogether.
From schoolgirls to working professionals, Galentine's celebrations focus on female friendships and shared affection. Teenagers Netra and Rhea Bhoyalloo say the day should be about reminding each other of the love that exists outside romantic relationships. The duo describe their friendship as a pink rose, soft, vibrant and reflective of youthful energy, shared aesthetics and strong vibes.
In the end, whether it's love, friendship or self-appreciation, Rose Day continues to bloom in more ways than one....
