FWICE appeals to industry to back Rajpal Yadav in cheque bounce case
India, Feb. 12 -- A
fter actor Sonu Sood extended support to Rajpal Yadav, more members of the film fraternity have stepped forward to help the jailed actor. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has now written to producer bodies across the industry, urging them to provide financial assistance.
Rajpal was sent to Delhi's Tihar Jail on February 5 in connection with a cheque bounce case. The actor is reportedly under a debt of Rs.9 crore. In 2010, he had borrowed Rs.5 crore to finance his directorial debut. After the film failed at the box office, the unpaid loan, along with penalties and interest, is said to have escalated to Rs.9 crore.
Confirming the appeal, BN Tiwari, President, FWICE, told us, "Rajpal Yadav ji is an important member of the film industry and a senior actor. He didn't lose money in gambling. He took a loan to make a film, which didn't work. These things happen and are not in everyone's control."
Besides singer Guru Randhawa and actor Gurmeet Choudhary, actor Kamaal Rashid Khan also expressed willingness to contribute Rs.10 lakh and called upon the industry to collectively raise funds. Rajpal Yadav's manager Goldie confirms the developments: "Salman Khan, Varun Dhawan have also reached out wanting to help. It is not just film bodies, even unions, technicians are pitching in to help him." He also adds, "Today is the bail hearing and we are hoping for a positive outcome."...
