UP moves HC against order to book cops in Sambhal violence case
MEERUT, Jan. 30 -- The Uttar Pradesh government has moved the Allahabad high court against a judicial order from earlier this month that directed lodging of an FIR against 22 police officers, including then circle officer (CO) of Sambhal city Anuj Chaudhary, for allegedly firing upon a youngster during the November 2024 violence.
Then Sambhal chief judicial magistrate (CJM) Vibhanshu Sudheer on January 9 ordered lodging of an FIR against Chaudhary, then Kotwali in-charge Anuj Tomar, and 20 unknown police officers, following a complaint alleging police firing during unrest linked to a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid.
