Chandauli, May 12 -- A 55-year-old woman admitted to a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli district was shot dead on Monday morning, police said.
The accused attempted to flee but was nabbed by a mob, who beat him and handed him over to police. The motive has not yet been ascertained, police said.
SP Akash Patel said the deceased was identified as Laxmina Devi, resident of Bihar's Bhabua district. She had undergone surgery at the hospital.
Patel said the arrested accused, Gurpreet Singh, 45, resident of Amritsar, posed as a patient and shot her at close range, resulting in her death on the spot. Police said a revolver was recovered from him. htc
