PUNE, April 6 -- A 20-year-old student died after a basketball pole allegedly collapsed on him on the campus of a private maritime college in Pune district on Sunday, police said. The deceased, Vishal Varma, was from Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, and a second-year student at the private marine engineering college in Induri, Maval. The incident took place early on Sunday, when the student was trying to do pull ups on the structure while returning to his room after completing his morning routine, police added. Santosh Patil, senior police inspector at Talegoan MIDC police station, said, "The basketball structure was broken and collapsed. He came under an iron pole and got injured."
