New Delhi, Sept. 17 -- The Delhi government will replace conventional sodium-based streetlights on Public Works Department (PWD) roads with smart LED fittings under a "pay-after-performance" or EMI model, officials said on Tuesday. Of around 96,000 PWD streetlights, nearly 45,000 use older high-pressure sodium vapour (HPSV) fittings that will be phased out. Contractors will be paid in monthly instalments only after installation and successful operation. "Delhi's roads are the backbone of our capital. This EMI model ensures companies have a stake in the performance of these lights, making them partners in accountability.
