India, Jan. 16 -- The Delhi government's statistical handbook for the year 2025 reported an alarming increase in deaths due to respiratory diseases. The data shows a clear upward trajectory in the post-pandemic period, with respiratory deaths rising from 7,432 in 2022 to 8,801 in 2023, and climbing to 9,211 in 2024. While the figure for 2021 - 14,442 deaths - was heavily influenced by Covid-19 pandemic, which frequently caused fatal respiratory failure, the consistent rise in the subsequent three years appeared to suggest the escalating burden of air pollution.P6
