Parl panel flags drop in train punctuality from 90% in 2021-22 to 73.62% in 2023-24
New Delhi, Feb. 5 -- Train punctuality on the Indian Railways has dropped sharply from 90% in 2021-22 to 73.62% in 2023-24, a parliamentary committee has said.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), in its report "Punctuality and Travel Time in Train Operations in Indian Railways" tabled in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, reviewed the performance of all categories of trains and recommended steps to improve reliability.
The report stated that the IR's punctuality was 77.51% in 2015-16 and declined to 69.23% in 2018-19 before rising to 90.48% in 2021-22. However, performance again slipped to 73.62% in 2023-24, with a slight improvement to 78.67% in 2024-25 up to August.
