New Delhi, Feb. 6 -- The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the government's construction arm NBCC India Ltd to complete 16 distressed housing projects of Supertech Ltd, taking note of the plight of nearly 50,000 homebuyers, many of whom have been waiting since 2010 to take possession. Issuing orders under Article 142 of the Constitution, which empowers the top court to issue any order to do complete justice, a bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and justice Joymalya Bagchi directed NBCC to ensure time-bound completion of projects. The directions gave a free hand to NBCC by ordering that no court, tribunal or high court shall pass any direction to stop the project.
