Bhubaneswar, Feb. 14 -- A special court in Balasore on Friday sentenced a man to death for a throwing acid on a family that left his wife dead and three others including two children with grievous burn injuries over a case of concealed marriage. The Special SC & ST Court, Balasore on Friday sentenced Chandan Rana to death and penalty of Rs.50000 on charges of throwing acid on his wife Banita Singh, who died in hospital after battling injuries in 2023. Rana, a resident of Nayapatna village under Nilagiri police limits of Balasore, had married Banita Singh at a temple in 2022 without disclosing that he was already married and had children.
